Aromatherapy Massage

Holistic massage is generally defined as the use of nurturing touches that involve the whole person. The idea is to relax you on all possible levels: spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Combined with aromatherapy, this brings an additional level of calm and healing, promoting both physical health and mental well-being. It’s a great way to completely relax and let go of any worries or tension. You can read more about holistic massage and what we offer here .

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy makes use of natural essential oils and plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Depending on the type of oil or oil blend there are different benefits to the massage client. For this reason, I carry a selection of 13 different essential oil blends; so you can find exactly the right one for your needs.

What types of oils are available?

A few popular essential oil blends I use in my practice are called Sound Asleep, Heaven Scent, and D-Tox.

Sound Asleep is a blend of sweet almond carrier oil infused with valerian, patchouli, and lavender. The valerian helps you relax and sleep (valerian tea is frequently used by people with insomnia for this reason!) Patchouli aids in fighting anxiety and depression, and lavender is well-known for relieving tension and inducing relaxation. Sound Asleep is the ideal blend for you if you’re looking to really relax and have a good night’s sleep following your massage appointment.

Our Heaven Scent essential oil blend is made up of sweet almond oil infused with vitamin E (to help fight signs of ageing), evening primrose oil (to combat pain and inflammation), rose oil, cypress oil, and rose geranium oil. The rose oil is known to help regulate and balance hormones, while cypress aids in regulating your menstrual cycle and helps relieve painful, heavy periods. Rose geranium adds a delicious scent that also aids in the balancing of hormones and helps eliminate any excess fluid you may be retaining.

While the above two blends aid in relaxation, D-Tox is meant to rejuvenate and help ward off sluggishness. It’s the perfect blend for you post-sporting activity and can really energise your system. Sweet almond oil is infused with refreshing cucumber, tingling mint, lemon, bay, and helichrysum oils. Helichrysum is a wonderful, rare flower oil that helps uplift your mood and rejuvenate your senses. Combined with the lemon it makes for a particularly zingy, uplifting scent.

What are some other popular essential oils and their uses?

If you’re wanting to read up on more essential oils before your visit, here are some of the most popular ones in use today:

  • Lavender – Known to relieve stress and relax the mind and body.
  • Rose – Used to balance hormones, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.
  • Chamomile – Used to induce relaxation and calm.
  • Peppermint – Known for boosting energy and aiding digestion.
  • Sandalwood – Used to help with mental focus and to calm nerves.

Do I have to use aromatherapy as part of my holistic massage?

No, you can always have your massage with plain almond oil or a mildly scented massage cream. If you have an intolerance to nut oils, I also offer grapeseed oil as an option, which is unscented.
